8th Special Troops Battalion Hikes for Suicide Prevention

September was National Suicide Prevention Month, and the U.S. Army's theme for the month was "Enhancing Resiliency - Strengthening Our Professionals." 8th Special Troops Battalion troops and their families wrapped up a month dedicated to resiliency and suicide prevention training with a morning hike up the Makapu'u Point Lighthouse located within Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline park in Oahu, Hawaii.

"The most important part of the hike was being able to open the event up to the Soldiers' families, too," said SFC Joseph Strnad. "The resiliency skills are there for both our Soldiers and their families to use in all parts of their lives."

SMA Raymond Chandler Visits Fort Lee to Talk about Sexual Assault and Suicide

SMA Raymond Chandler visited Fort Lee Monday (6 Oct 14) for a walk through of the Best Warrior Competition that took place this week. While SMA Raymond Chandler was at Fort Lee he also took the opportunity to talk to more than 500 Soldiers about Sexual Assault and Suicide stressing the importance of the 3C's competence, character, and commitment.

"We're going to talk about our Army Profession and two things I think we can solve -- sexual assaults and suicides," said SMA Chandler. "I'm not going to show you the Army's sexual assault or suicide prevention PowerPoint presentation. I'm trying to drive why we have challenges in this area due to a lack of understanding of what our profession says we must be known for."
